This page is a run thru and guide(?) for starting to listen to VOCALOID. I made a playlist that i felt combined a good mix of genres, producers and VOCALOIDS and UTAUloid. Though my personal preferences and bias has DEFINITELY affected the songs featured. For example theres a lot of miku and GUMI. I also have a couple producers feature twice.
The aim of this playlist is to show a variety of VOCALOID songs. It was hard to juggle having a wide range AND trying to put songs that are ‘classics’. As many early well loved VOCALOID songs - while good - are very similar.
This was mostly made to show friends who aren’t too familiar with VOCALOID but have an interest in listening. (basically people who have heard PoPiPo or ievan polkka a couple times and not much else).im super aware of the fact that most neocities users are VERY familiar with VOCALOID.
If this is YOUR first time hearing any of these I’d really recommend looking into whatever producer catches your interest.

I really like this song and its super nostalgic. I think it is catchy and an easy entry point due to the fact its lyrics are inoffensive and fun. I also think many people who are unfamiliar with vocaloid only really know of Miku so starting with Luka seemed right.I also think the dance is cute. This is probably most well known song that features Luka as the sole VOCALOID. I also really like the way samfree tunes her voice he really leans into the airy sound.

This song changed my brain chemistry when i first heard it. Its got so many little noises i love that. I added this song to this playlist since A! its a duet and B! GUMI and Miku r my favourite VOCALOIDs lmao. This is again a very popular song and thats cos its GOOD. I feel like i can physically feel the build up and explosion the producers trying to communicate. This song apparently has a lot of people scratching their heads about the meaning but for me personally i havent found any interpretation all that interesting and mostly enjoy the song cos it gives me goosebumps. fun fact tho this song as been adapted into a comic, book and movie. Pretty crazy
Track 3: MATORYOSHKA by HACHI

Another Miku and GUMI duet! i put these after eachother purely to show how different they sound from eachother. VOCALOID can be so many differnt genres and a single voicebank can be tuned to suit a producers style. I think thats so cool. This song is also similar to the last in that fans often discuss what it could mean. The most common interpretation of this song is that its nonsensical lyrics and erratic sound are intended to portray someone going insane. The title of the song - Matoryoshka - is (obviously) refering to a Russian nesting doll. This could be taken as a metaphor for the main subjects mental state or it could be seen a metaphor for the audiences desire to look for a more concrete understanding of the song. Anyway if you don't know much about HACHI's career as a producer you might be familar with his work under his real name - Kenshi Yonezu.
