My favourite songs!!!

(Just like any reasonable person) I found narrowing down my favourite songs into a list hard! But urm super fun.

The hardest part is not just adding music i'm currently listening to on loop rn. cos, like most people, i listen to music based on vibes/mood i'm currently in. Ive tried to construct this list in the way that made the most sense to me which was like intersecting music i really love with music i think is actually good music. Cos truthfully! i like a lot of bad music.

Just to narrow this down a little for myself this list EXCLUDES video game osts and KINDA EXCLUDES anime osts otherwise this would be physically impossible. Also trying to limit vocaloid songs - even tho i think its unfair this list would be majority vocaloid if i do not show some restraint. Also i do want to make a FEW different pages related to vocaloid so thats another reason.

might add songs in the future (maybe even take some off?).

hope you enjoy reading and if u also have some thoughts or music reccs based on these I’d really like to hear them :)

Listen along HERE but i have also linked each song individually to make things easier.

Track 1 : Unknown Mother Goose - Wowaka ft. Hatsune Miku

Year: 2017

Genre: Rock

wowaka cover

Starting off with vocaloid to get it out of the way. I think in some fucked up twisted world where i didn’t listen to vocaloid - I would still really like this song. It’s fun and fast paced. this is one of those songs where I feel like I can feel exactly what they were trying to get across. The moments of building tension and then letting go in the chorus is so visceral. i always catch myself holding my breath leading up to it. Id really recommend this song to anyone who’s new to vocaloid and anyone who hasn’t heard wowaka/hitorie before. This sounds a bit silly saying since I know that most people on neocities are big vocaloid fans lmao.

Track 2 : Sugar - System of a Down

Year: 1998

Genre: Metal

listen here

system cover

I’ve always liked system but I’ve gotten into them way more lately. Anyway this song is a fan favourite so I won’t talk about it too much. But I like this song cos it’s fun and loud and good to headbang to. This is probably one of their most straightforward songs in terms of its meaning. While I really like this song I actually like mesmerize as an album more rather than their self titled album.

Track 3 : Something about Us - Daft Punk

Year: 2001

Genre: Dance, Electronic

listen here

daft punk cover

Super mellow and funky. this songs very repetitive (like a lot of daft punk) so I find this easy to listen to when walking around. often use it to block out city and train noises cos they give me migraines lmao. Besides that tho this song kinda makes me a little sad if I actually listen to it. Kinda reminds me of loving someone a lot but finding it hard to tell them (lame!). Interstella is so cool i havent watched it in a long while.

Track 4 : Kagerou - FujiFabric

Year: 2004

Genre: Rock

fujifabric cover

This songs definitely in my top 5 favourite songs tbh. This lists order is irrelevant tho so it can go here. It 100% captures that nostalgic melancholy feeling. I’m having a hard time explaining why I like this song so much but SERIOUSLY listen to it. One thing I really love and this is definitely my own interpretation is that the music sounds like wind and I think that ties in well with the lyrics and meaning. Like moments blowing away (BOO). The vocals are also strained at points and I LOVE when singers do that it’s so cool and adds so much emotion. Anyway I’ve linked this song on one of my pages so I think that goes to show how much I like it. I have the album on CD too!

Track 5 : Zero - The Smashing Pumpkins

Year: 1995

Genre: Rock, Grunge

listen here

The Smashing Pumpkins cover

this one’s really fun to sing. This songs pretty sexy and I feel like my whole head is being filled with it. Like the sounds so thick - there’s so much going on. I like funny voices and sounds too. So of course i like it. kinda angsty too. but in like a way that makes me feel cool when im walking to class not actually sad. god is empty just like me ^o^

Track 6 : Dsco - Sweet Trip

Year: 2003

Genre: Dance, Electronic, Indie

listen here

Sweet Trip cover

this song got a super strong melancholy feeling. I notice on days I feel good I’ll interpret it a lot more happy then if I was in a shit mood. I think that’s the difference between focusing on the vocals and the instruments. Tho they work really well together (obviously i think that - it’s on my favourite song list). Lots of fun sounds!!!!!! When i was like 16 or something i used to imagine this would be the ending for the imaginary anime for my ocs. Sweet trip has gained a small cult following but nows the best time to get into their music. They’ve released some new stuff recently! it’s so fucking cool!!!!

Track 7 : Parallelisme - Miharu Koshi

Year: 1984

Genre: Pop, Electronic

listen here

Miharu Koshi cover

Miharu Koshi is so underrated(at least in the west) and is one of my favourite artists I feel. I haven’t seen but maybe on YouTube she might have a cult following. She combines Japanese and French and it sounds super nice! This is definitely one of her more well known songs but that’s for a reason! the electronic and synth sounds fuck so severally. i like how layered the music sound - I have a weakness for songs that have a lot of wacky little noises in them. I’m not a music guy I have no other way of telling u this is a good song. Infact the whole album is really good go listen. NOW.

Track 8 : Luv (sic) pt.2 - Shing02 and Nujabes

Year: 2003

Genre: Hip Hop, Rap

listen here

Nujabes cover

this one’s kinda lame but when I was 13-16 my anxiety and (at the time) undiagnosed ADHD made going to school extremely stressful for me(and there was other stuff but not gonna get into that lmao). Listening to nujabes was like the only thing that would keep my brain from exploding. This song is just so smooth and really pretty tbh. ALSO samurai champloo is a really good show(watch it)!! So I also associate his music with the nostalgia from that as well. Listening to the whole departure album when the weather starts to get warm really sets the vibe. I like this song best even tho it’s not on the departure album.

Track 9 : Rhinestone eyes - Gorillaz

Year: 2010

Genre: Electro-funk

listen here

Gorillaz cover

Gorillaz HAS to be on this list. Tho the last time I gave a shit about gorillaz there were only 4 phases lmao. I’m not a big griller head anymore and not so interested in the new phases but man this song specifically is so cool(also I love love love demon days). I know it’s pretty popular on tiktok but at one point this song was pretty underrated. I saw Gorillaz live and they played really well! but this song specifically fucked so hard. walking out of that arena I might as well have been 8 months pregnant

Track 10 : ONE LIFE - The Pillows

Year: 1998

Genre: Alt Rock

listen here

The Pillows cover

At one point the pillows was one of my favourite bands(along with blur lmao). While this is still a popular song of theirs, it's kinda underrated to me. Like on the FLCL ost it has one of the least listens(this DOESNT violate the anime ost rule cos ive listened to like all of their music lmao). This song sounds so ghostly but happy :)! Now that I think about it i havent looked at the lyrics for this song in a long time. The pillows is like dad rock lmao but ITS GOOD! I wanted to put a song by the pillows on here. It was a close tie with this song, Strange chameleon and Hybrid rainbow. I think i have more of a personal attachment to this song tho.

Track 11 : Kimochi Warui (When? When? When? When? When? When? When?) - Car Seat Headrest

Year: 2014

Genre: Indie

listen here

Car Seat Headrest cover

Now i dont really listen to CSHR anymore - mostly because i am no longer depressed lmao (touchwood)- but also cos i find i dont really like listening to overly sad music much anymore in general. I'm all about jovial music now. Maybe its also cause it really reminds me of a specific time in my life idk. That aside, I remember how much i liked this song specifically and i still like it! Maybe thats weird to put it on this list but it was definitely a favourite song of mine at some point. Anyway, is that an evangelion reference!?!?!?!

Track 12 : Shissou - Last Alliance (english version by Justin Houston)

Year: 2006

Genre: Rock

listen here

listen here(english vers)

Ouran Highschool Host CLub cover

the exception to the no anime music rule. Now is this song REALLY that good? No not really. Especially since I’m specifically referring to the English version. but man this A!! Unlocks super specific memories and B!!! it’s connected to one of my favourite shows (unfortunately). The intro to this has been my ringtone for years now. Also the guitar riff is pretty cool I’ll say.
